Colts A Hockey Team win at Lincolnshire County Championships

15 Feb 2016

Despite it being a slightly smaller than expected tournament, due to a few teams pulling out at the last minute, the Colts boys can feel really proud of their efforts at their first hockey competition.

Witham Hall 1 : Bourne Westfield 0

The newly formed Colts A Hockey team made a superb debut at the Lincolnshire County Championships. Their first match was against Bourne Westfield who had a number of club hockey players who train and play every week. It was a close game throughout with the attack and defence working hard. Our Witham boys showed a super lever of team work throughout; their continued efforts finally resulting in a goal as a ball fed in from Charlie was finished off by George. Harry and Oliver were solid in defence working one behind the other and continuously backing each other up stopping our goalie, Sam, from even having to touch the ball!

Witham Hall 5 : Lincoln Minster 0

Our second match of the day was against Lincoln Minster; another team with some well-established hockey players. After a promising first few minutes Witham seemed to be struggling to find the backboard with several failed attempts despite Max and Louis’ best efforts. Captain Joe was rapid down the right crossing the ball beautifully in front of the goal but no one quite managing to get control of the ball. Finally Witham found their stride and in the second half Oliver, Charlie, Louis and Joe all managed to get their names of the score sheet.

The boys showed a fantastic level of hockey for a team who are only just learning the game; they gelled as a team, supported one another and most importantly showed great sportsmanship – a credit to the school, well done county champions!
