Ely Choral Day

05 Oct 2017

Witham’s Senior Choristers enjoyed their first trip of the school year when then travelled the long and winding Fen road to King’s Ely last week. They joined with singers from lots of other schools to work hard with renowned choral conductor Dominic Peckham (Assistant Music Director of The National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, Visiting Lecturer at the University of Oxford and Guest Conductor for London Mozart Players, who was previously chorus master for English National Opera!)
They learnt to listen carefully and produce their voices sensibly, and at one point sang an ancient piece of Plainchant from the 4th century whilst processing through the beautiful cathedral to the famous Lady Chapel, a venue renowned for its amazing acoustics. Then, at the end of the day, they performed their pieces to an appreciative audience of parents in the cathedral itself. Repertoire included Freedom 90 by George Michael, a mashup of Only Human and Shape of You, a Swedish lullaby with birdsong and an energetic African piece!
