Success for Witham Equestrian Team at NSEA County Dressage Qualifier and Grassroots Showjumping Regional Finals
28 Nov 2018
On Sunday 25th November the equestrian team took four riders to Epworth Equestrian Centre to take part in the County Dressage Qualifier and the Grassroots Showjumping Regional final. The school was represented by Mollie D on Arthur, Clara W on Jester, Isobel B on Billy and Ava L on Ozzy.
All four girls took part in the dressage competition, which comprised two tests, a warm up test and then the actual county qualifier. The girls all rode well in the warm up test with Clara finishing 2nd, Isy 3rd, Ava 5th and Mollie 6th. Then on to the team qualifier in which Witham were by far the youngest team of the day. The girls again rode a lovely set of tests but against some stiff and experienced competition they finished just outside of the team qualification places in 3rd place, however there is definitely a lot for us to build on for the future. Particular mention must go to Mollie who finished 4th individually and to Isobel, who in her very first outing for the school, finished in individual 6th place. Well done, girls.
The showjumping competition was busy for the Witham team with the girls riding both qualifiers and finals on the same day. Isy and Ava both took part in the 50cm qualifier with Ava jumping a very speedy round to win it and qualify for the final. Ava and Ozzy were flying in the final; however, perhaps a little too much as they overshot a turn which unfortunately cost them a placing! Ava was joined by Clara in the 60cm qualifier and the girls again rode super rounds with Ava finishing in 1st place and Clara hot on her heels in 2nd, meaning that they both qualified for the final. The final was a huge class but our little team wasn’t daunted - Clara rode a good solid round to finish in 6th place, but the star of the day award goes to Ava who rode a foot perfect and very speedy round to finish 2nd in the 60cm final. On top of this both Clara and Ava took home horsemanship prizes for the best ridden rounds as well, which was a fantastic achievement.
So all in all a great fun day out for the equestrian team with us all returning home with lots of rosettes.
