Year 2 Victorian Day
13 Mar 2019
On Monday, Year 2 enjoyed a wonderful day of fun and learning at Stibbington Educational Centre. As part of their Victorian Topic, the children enjoyed a ‘hands-on’ look at Victorian toys and artefacts from the late 19th century. The pupils had great fun using the clues to work out what the objects were used for. Following a playtime with Victorian toys, a walk through the village blew the cobwebs away and enabled all to observe features of older houses and to discuss family life. The children were amazed to hear about a family of twelve who lived in one of the small cottages! The highlight of the trip was the role play in the period classroom. The teacher was very strict and the children said prayers, did their arithmetic using slates and an abacus and performed drill. Then everyone copied out handwriting using dip pens. Luckily the cane remained hanging on its hook and the dunce’s cap stayed on the window-sill!
