Uppingham Singing Day

26 Jan 2015

On Thursday the senior choir travelled to Uppingham to participate in an amazing day of singing. We were invited as one of two outstanding prep school choirs (along with Stoneygate School) to sing together, and also to present our own performance as part of a special concert in the Chapel. The Uppingham Director of Music, Stephen Williams, did some of the choral directing, and the rest was done by Uppingham’s new Head of Singing, Catherine Griffiths. Both of them got the very best out of the singers!

It was a very tiring day, as we were working so hard and concentrating so much, but the concert performances at the end of the day were fantastic. As well as Stoneygate singing Adiemus and Every time I feel the Spirit, and Witham singing Sing with me and Silver Trumpet, the massed choirs sang a selection of folk song arrangements (including The Devil and the Ploughman, Skye Boat Song, Nicky Tams and The Ash Grove) by Benjamin Britten and other, contemporary composers. Two soloists from Uppingham performed beautifully and inspired us all to take our singing further!

Thanks to Mrs Wass, Miss Playford and Miss Rafferty for coming along to help – we had a great day!
