1st VII Netball Team wins Kimbolton Netball Tournament!
02 Feb 2015
The 1st VII Netball team travelled away to Kimbolton School for their Annual 1st Team Netball Tournament. Witham knew it was going to be tough against strong opposition; Bedford Girls’ School, Swanbourne Prep, Kimbolton School and Queenswood. Our first match was against Swanbourne – a tall, skilful side. Witham looked determined from the start and played some super, safe netball. The first half was steady and we took the lead convincingly. We kept our heads and stuck to our game plan. The final score was Witham 11, Swanbourne 2. The second game was against Bedford Girls’, who had just lost to Queenswood School 8-9. Again, this was a very tough game. Witham were really holding the fast play back, which certainly made the opposition think. Witham’s channels and triangles were superb and all the girls worked so hard ‘on’ and ‘off’ the ball. Again, we took control throughout and we won 5-0. The third match was against Kimbolton and again, we were tested with very tall players to play against. Our tactics were secure and we won 5-2. Our final game was the decider against Queenswood, who had won everything so far! Witham played out of their skins and at times, it was as good as any under 13 side I have seen play. When the tactics come together, the play is quite exceptional and if we can do that across the whole match, there will be no stopping us! Witham were certainly on fire and we won 4-2.
A wonderful display of netball throughout! Well done to all the girls on a terrific tournament and we now look forward to building on what we have achieved so far and taking it further!
Special thank you’s go to Miss Wells who came to support me and the team! Also, huge thanks to our parents and supporters who supported us throughout and to Kimbolton School for hosting a super tournament and looking after us so well.
