Chess Success

02 Feb 2015

There was success for both of the Witham Hall U11 teams in the recent Worksop Chess Tournament, whilst the U13's team narrowly missed out on the prizes.

Robert Tombs, Ewan Rodell, Alex Spragg and Sam Smith came first in their section whilst Archie Bingham, Hamish Gordon-Stewart, Richard Tomlinson and Jake Lockett were runners-up in their section. As well as their team success, Robert Tombs and Richard Tomlinson were very impressive winning all of their matches. A big thank you also to Vyvyan Bewley who at the last minute stepped up to play in the U13 team.

We were also very pleased to hear that 8 Witham Hall pupils have been selected for the Lincolnshire County Squad and will play their first match taking place on the 28th February. Robert Tombs, Ewan Rodell and Sam Smith will be playing for the third consecutive year whilst Hamish Gordon-Stewart plays for his second year after a fine performance in last year’s matches. New members of the squad this year will be Richard Tomlinson, Jack Buik and, for the first time, we have 2 female players selected- Poppy Wraith and Shivali Patel. Congratulations to all.
