30 Witham musicians travelled to Uppingham to take part in the famous Prep Schools Orchestral Day. 350 children from 21 prep schools from as far away as Woodford Green and Harrogate got together to play and have fun.

The strings played two movements from Music For The Royal Fireworks by Handel, the Wind Band played a medley from Toy Story 2, and then everyone joined together to make a huge ensemble. The massed players prepared and performed a brand new piece called The Great Tune Robbery which told the story of the sections of an orchestra going in search of the missing pieces of the tune to Happy Birthday.

It was a very tiring day, but at the end we performed all our pieces to an audience of excited parents before coming back to Witham.

Thanks to Miss Playford and Mrs Welch for helping on the day, and very well done to all the performers. A special mention goes to Isaac Kendon-Furtado who, as a year 2 pupil, is the youngest player we have ever taken to the Uppingham day. Well done!
