Success at IAPS Squash Tournament

27 Apr 2015

As usual, the Squash season culminated at Wellington College with our annual visit to the IAPS Squash Tournament. This year we were represented by Catherine Swanston, George Davies and James Tattersall. In the group stages Catherine finished third in her group of ten, James finished a very creditable fifth in his group and George finished a respectable sixth in his. Catherine did well enough to proceed to the knock-out stages where she reached the third/fourth play-off for the second year in succession. In the Doubles tournament James and Catherine went on to win the Plate Competition. Our trip to Wellington was as enjoyable and successful as ever, and thanks goes to Janie Swanston for her continued assistance and support of our team at the IAPS over several years.

The Squash Team was very busy in the latter stages of last term, playing two matches in quick succession. In the first, we played Maidwell Hall. Our team consisted of Catherine Swanston as captain, James Tattersall, Harry Thompson, George Davies, Toby Hanson and Archie Smith- Maxwell, and the overall result was a 5-1 win to Witham Hall. Several of the matches were exceedingly close, allowing a lot to be learned from such even competition. On the very next day we were in action again, this time against Stoneygate School. Once more, several tight matches ensured that we enjoyed an exciting afternoon and our players certainly benefitted from being involved in very competitive matches. Our team comprised of George Davies, Sacha Howells, Max Shippey and Toby Coulson. The final result was a very narrow 2-3 defeat.
