ESSA Primary Schools Relay Championships Qualifying

05 May 2015

On Friday 24th April, a team of 5 children left Witham to go to Louth Swimming Pool to take part in the East Midlands qualifying competition for the Primary Schools Relay Championships. It is the first time Witham attended this event and took part in the medium sized schools category against Brooke Priory, Northampton High School and Mornington Parish.

Firstly, the team swam in the Freestyle Relay and came 3rd with a time of 1m 19s. The team members were: Isabella Micklewright, Olly Rymer, Joe Atkinson and Harriet Antony. This meant that they qualified for the finals. The same team swam again in the same order but sadly they were 2 seconds slower with a time of 1m 21s and came 9th.

The second event was the Medley Relay. This time Alice Farmer swapped in for Joe Atkinson. Olly started the relay with backstroke, then Alice and Isabella with breaststroke and Harriet finished with front crawl. Again the team came 3rd and qualified for the finals. They did amazingly in the finals and came 4th! The team did so well against teams that swim every week and schools that are much bigger than Witham.
