Witham Hall at Worksop Athletics Meet

19 May 2015

33 Witham Hall athletes travelled to Worksop College, led by Captains Archie Smith Maxwell and Ella Turner, to compete in their annual athletics meet last Tuesday. This was the first opportunity our athletes had to showcase their talents and they duly delivered over the course of the afternoon. Each athlete could only partake in 1 x track and 1 x field event as part of a team meaning we had some taking part in events they have had very limited experience in - just to help their teams’ points total. By the end of the day, Witham had won 19 events and broken 6 more school records – a superb achievement. Not only that, Witham did extremely well in each team competition with the Year 8 Boys winning their section outright. Alice Farmer, Sophie Hamilton, Ella Turner, Poppy Chatterton, Harry Gillett, Ewan Rodell, Max Moore, Archie Smith-Maxwell, Rori Rodell and Will Moore all won one of their events with Harriet Anthony, Alex Anthony and Toby Hanson winning both.

Will Moore, Sophie Hamilton, Poppy Chatterton, Oliver Simmonds x 2 and Harriet Anthony all broke school records which highlights the strength of our squad and the willingness to improve. We also had Ffion Trundell running the 800m in a year group ahead and Sienna McAlpine running with two years her senior. Both girls did fantastically well and gained huge points for their team!

Well done to all our athletes who took part. You all showed a great attitude whatever the position and supported the Witham team throughout. This was topped off by James Tattersall who volunteered five minutes before departure and competed admirably in two events. A big thank you must go to Worksop for hosting a great day and to Miss Stanton, Mr Westcott and Mrs Welch for their support throughout.
