Celebrating the 800th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta

11 Jun 2015

Anya Batty, Ned Chatterton, Abbie Leverton and Joey Robinson represented the school at this historic ceremony in Lincoln Cathedral and received a framed facsimile of Lincoln’s Magna from The Right Honourable the Lord Judge, former Lord Chief Justice.

Lincoln’s Magna Carta, one of only four surviving originals, was brought back to the city by Hugh of Wells, Bishop of Lincoln, who was present at Runnymede in June 1215 when King John sealed Magna Carta.

Magna Carta is regarded as the most significant document in our constitutional history, and is acknowledged throughout the English speaking world as the foundation of the rule of law.

It is from this that our judicial and parliamentary system developed.
