The annual Worksop Colllege Festival was the first tournament of the year for the 1st team and the boys certainly did themselves proud and learnt a few lessons along the way.

Our first opponents were Wellow House and after a slow start we started to play some very impressive rugby, keeping the ball for many phases and rucking ferociously at the breakdown.

This in turn led to quick ball which stretched our opponents and we were able to exploit the space out wide. As the game progressed the boys kept working hard and playing at a high tempo with William Moore and George Davies driving the team forward. The final score was 30-0 to Witham. Next up for Witham were S. Anselm’s, a team which had a lot pace on the wings and a fly half who was in fine form. After talking about starting the game strongly and making our first up tackles, it was incredibly pleasing to see the boys get off to such an explosive start. From the kick off Will Davison made a great tackle ably supported by the rest of the pack who flooded in and secured the ball. This in turn led to a well worked try which was finished off in the corner of the pitch. After such a strong start we never looked back; Alex Anthony and Orlando Thain were working well in tandem and James Tattersall was orchestrating proceedings from fly half with a maturity beyond his years. The final score of 35-0 certainly did the boys justice and they were now playing some really fluent rugby. Our final group game was against St. Hugh’s where another strong start, playing at a high intensity enabled Witham to win comfortably. It was pleasing to see the 1st team retain the ball so well but what was most impressive was the way we moved the ball away from contact. In the final, the boys played Ranby House who we knew would be a physical side. In the first five minutes we had opportunities to score but made errors, losing the ball in contact. However, at 10-0 down at half time, we really turned things around in the second half and started to meet Ranby head on. The final score was 10-0 to Ranby. The boys will have learnt a lot from their efforts this weekend and should be very pleased with what they’ve achieved over a short space of time. We now look forward to our tour up north next weekend.

 Colts A:

The Colts A enjoyed an encouraging start to the season at the Worksop College Prep Schools' Festival. After a tough opening game against the impressive S. Anselm's, our boys dug deep and earned a terrific draw against a very physical Ranby side. Everything then came together in our match against St Hugh's, with our five tries scored by five different players. With almost half of our 13-man squad comprised of Year 5 boys, the signs certainly bode well for the future – well done, boys!
