U9A start their Rugby journey at the Barlborough Festival!

22 Sep 2015

The Witham Hall U9A squad were excited to be playing together in their first tournament. All of the boys played some great rugby throughout the afternoon developing their rugby skills to the new rules.

Witham Hall 10-30 Birkdale Hall

Our first game was against Birkdale Hall and with it being the first match of the season the boys got off to a shaky start. Both Jack Braddock and Jack Buik did well to score tries but it our defence let us down.

Witham Hall 10-10 Mylnhurst

Our next match was against Mylnhurst Prep and Witham got off to a better start. Henry Farmer from a restart pumped his legs and scored what was a great solo try. Special mention goes to James Hayle and Fred Shippey for their ability to move the ball away from contact. The boys did well to keep scores level.

Witham Hall 5-20 Westbourne

It was a different story against Westbourne as Witham Hall struggled in defence throughout the match. Freddie St John and Atan Hussain did well to make ground for their teammates by making good surges for the try line. The boys were starting to understand what they needed to work on.

Witham Hall 15-5 Barlborough House

The wheels were starting to roll as Witham Hall got off to a flying start with Charlie Selkin making line breaks in the oppositions defence and Rafe Chawner making good solid tackles all game. Witham were looking like a proper rugby team leading up to their last match.

Witham Hall 25-0 St Peters St Johns

With it being the boys last match of the tournament they were keen to finish on a high note. Tries were scored by Toby Hayle, Freddie St John, Jack Buik, Fred Shippey and Charlie Selkin made it a convincing win for the boys in blue.

All in all the U9A squad finished the tournament with 2 wins, 2 losses and a draw. The boys did well and played with great sportsmanship.  And as ever, thank you to all the parents who travelled somoe distance to come and support Witham Hall!
