Witham Hall 1st VII 2 vs Pelicans Hockey Club 0

Felicity Bridges Webb
Hattie Grace

After a long journey to Kings Lynn, the girls were ready to play their first competitive fixture of the season against a strong club side. The match was split into four quarters of ten minutes and the team worked extremely hard in each to finish victors. Felicity Bridges Webb scored after a majestic piece of individual skill through the middle of the pitch with Hattie Grace slotting a second to create a little daylight between the teams. The Pelicans came back fighting but strong defensive work from Poppy Chatterton and Catherine Swanston stifled any attack and the girls got their just rewards with a fine 2-0 victory.

Witham Hall 1st XI at The Repton Tournament

WHS 3 vs Grace Dieu 0

WHS 0 vs Formarke Hall 0

WHS 2 vs Grace Dieu 0

WHS 1 vs Foremarke Hall 1

The Repton Tournament was to be the first taste of eleven a side action for the majority of the team and something they looked to relish. With a fine opening victory against Grace Dieu, the girls went into the Foremarke Hall match high in confidence and battled hard in defence to keep a clean sheet with Lottie Bingham and Maria Morris in particular working hard to clear their lines. After another impressive victory against a resilient Grace Dieu, the team knew that victory against Foremarke would clinch the tournament win. Playing on the counter attack Witham sat deep and sprung attacks through Captain Sophia Ktori, and Isabella Manara. After long spells of defence, Witham cleared their lines well through Ella Turner but a momentary lapse in concentration handed Formarke a goal minutes from time; the Witham players turned their back at a long corner enabling the opposition to stroll into the 'D' unchallenged. The response from the players was simply brilliant. Moving the ball quickly up the left flank, Philippa Hix beat two defenders and calmly poked home with just seconds remaining. Unfortunately due to one goal on goal difference, Witham were runners up but took great solace from a real fight in their last match and remaining unbeaten so far...

A special mention must go to Jenna Lloyd and Sophia Ktori who picked up Goalkeeper and Player of the Tournament awards respectively.
