The 2014 Senior Girls’ Hockey Tour got underway at Kings Ely with Witham worthy winners in both matches. The 1st VII played some impressive hockey to win 13 -1 and the 2nd VII had a hard fought match which finished 2 -1 with both goals coming from the dominant Maria Morris. After a late meal on the marina and overnight stay in Ipswich, the squad took the short journey to the beach for some team games and fish ‘n’ chips – a great pre match meal. The next destination was Orwell Park School who were hosting an annual tournament. Witham entered two very competitive teams with the 1st VII winning every match, conceding no goals and the 2nd VII fighting hard all afternoon to produce a very impressive set of results against very strong ‘A’ teams.

Orwell Park then hosted Witham for the evening. After a quick tea, the girls were invited to go for an outdoor swim which was great fun. With the run of the grounds, the girls then enjoyed playing games on the stunning Orwell pitches topped off with a film which the girls enjoyed but Miss Stanton and Mr Gent certainly did not!

With an early start for breakfast, the squad said a fond farewell to their hosts and travelled to the Mepal Activity Centre. The girls took part in shooting and team high ropes which only strengthened the bonds in the group, despite Poppy Chatterton showing everyone up in the shooting. After a quick stop off for some food to celebrate both Poppy’s birthday and the end of a simply brilliant tour, the squad returned to Witham tired but happy. A big thank you must go to Mrs Edwards for organising the tour, Orwell Park for such a wonderful stay, the parents for all their support, King’s Ely for hosting us and finally the girls for making the trip a real pleasure.
