Bloxham Schools Eventer Challenge Series - Aston Le Walls Eventing Centre Sunday 10th January 2016
Our Equestrian team had a very busy weekend, at the Bloxham Schools Eventer Challenge. Four Witham families drove their ponies and children down to Aston, bedded down their ponies for the night and went off to a hotel 20 minutes up the road for a team swim and dinner for 13. Great fun was had by all in preparation for an eventful day!
Witham Hall entered a team of 4 into the 65cm Schools event, the team included Cecily Hopkins (year 7), Sienna De Gale (year 6), Jemima Foljambe (year 6), and George Rowley (year 5). 24 children were entered into the class with 15 competing in the team school section. Cecily was first to go and was clear in the show jumping phase but had an unfortunate run out in the cross country phase thus getting 20 penalties. Jemima Foljambe, in her first eventer challenge competition, did a great steady clear across both sections. Sienna rode very well on her pony but had two unfortunate stops thus finishing with 40 penalties and finally George who was on a very fresh & lively pony rode with great courage & conviction but due to the enthusiasm of his pony he was forced to withdraw in the cross country section. Only the best 3 scores count so Witham Hall finished on 60 penalties. Individually Jemima came 4th and Cecily came 6th.
The next class was the pre-intro 80cms, but due to the cold weather and frisky ponies, Sienna, Jemima and George withdrew, hence no team competed. However Cecily was keen to represent Witham as an individual rider.
24 were entered into this class and Cecily learnt from her earlier mistake, riding a determined perfect double-clear and also opting to go for the trickier higher joker fence at the end. Only 7 went double clear and jumped the joker fence, and as Cecily was closest to the optimum time she won, thus qualifying her as an individual for the Pre-Intro 80cms Final in February, and pocketing £50 in vouchers.
Witham Hall team have qualified for the 65cm final in February and were at the top of the leader board coming into today's competition.
