Senior Choristers attend VOCES8 Workshop at Worksop College

18 Jan 2016

Senior Choir members travelled to Worksop College for a fantastic singing day with a difference. The event was led by the eight talented members of internationally-acclaimed Decca recording artists VOCES8, a vocal group who specialise in acapella performance. We learnt new and exciting ways to warm up our brains, voices and bodies, and then learnt a South American folk song about the Essequibo River, with body percussion and part singing. We split into groups and did some creative composition work on the theme of space. The Witham children enjoyed conveying gravity, shooting stars and black holes with bizarre vocal techniques and even added the Imperial March theme from Star Wars and the main song from the Pre Prep Nativity (‘Stargazing’) to their piece! We also practised a version of Uptown Funk, and then when the parents arrived we performed our pieces in the amazing chapel. VOCES8 themselves showcased their huge variety of repertoire and sang us Gershwin, Byrd, a spiritual, Jessie J and Ellington. It was a very inspiring day!
