Witham boys play at Welford Road
09 Feb 2016
Witham boys Louis Batty and Will Chatterton had a day to remember last Saturday, when representing Stamford RFC in the Prima Cup at Welford Road, home of Leicester Tigers. The Cup matches took place after Leicester had played Sale in their Premiership fixture.
The 8 qualifying teams made their way to Welford Road from over 70 original entrants. Each team played two games, each of 7 minutes each way.
Stamford, who had finished top of their regional group, opened against Holt RFC, and at full time the teams could not be separated, drawing 0-0.
This meant that the game went with a coin toss (undertaken before the match started) and Stamford went through.
In the last 4 Stamford met Moseley, one of the leading clubs in the country in the 1970’s and 80’s. A superb tussle resulted, with Moseley winning the day by two tries to one. Needless to say, it was a fantastic experience and great day for the boys! Well done.
