The 1st VII put in some sterling performances at Oundle on Sunday. Drawn in a tough group, the boys got better and better with each game played. Two straight forward results against St Hugh’s Oxford and Lockers Park led to a tough game against Tower Hill School where it was crucial that the 1st VII got a good result to enable them to get an easier quarter final route. Our final group game against Sedbergh was an incredibly tough and physical battle but with three wins from four we had a favourable draw against Wellesley House in the quarter finals. An end to end encounter led to Witham running a try into the corner in the last thirty seconds of play to seal a semi-final tie with Mount Kelly. Mount Kelly played some tremendous rugby, keeping the ball alive in the tackle and scoring some impressive team tries. With a 27-10 defeat, the 1st VII were left a little deflated however, there was no time to rest as they had one more round to play and a chance to secure 3rd place in the cup competition. An end to end game against Horris Hill left the boys absolutely shattered and although they lost 28-17, they did themselves and Witham proud. A big thank you must go to all the parents who came to support on what was a thoroughly enjoyable day of rugby.
