Ski Trip - France
20 Apr 2016
After a week off at the end of the Lent term the Witham Hall Ski Tour group met for their annual trip to the French Alps. The first day skiing was hard work in windy and mixed snow conditions but the children persevered and left in the capable hands of Thierry and Laurent (ski instructors, had a very enjoyable first day skiing. By the middle of the week, conditions had improved and all the children thoroughly enjoyed a day’s skiing up on the glacier at 3600m. Atan, Henry, Charlie and Thomas did particularly well as year 4’s skiing with some much older pupils and really held their own throughout the week. Every day the group enjoyed 5 hours of ski instruction. In the mornings, this involved working on technique and covering many miles for the more experienced skiers and in the afternoons both groups tended to visit the snow park for slalom practice, jumps and tricks. At lunch times, back at the hotel, the children enjoyed a hot lunch each day to keep them going in the afternoon. When the skiing for the day finished at 4.30pm it was time for a quick shower followed by some down time which often involved playing table tennis, table football, board games and going into town to sample the delights of French cuisine first hand (or heading to the supermarket to buy as many sweets as possible). By 7pm the children sat down for supper and enjoyed a large variety of meals including croque-monsieur, raclette, steak hachè and roast chicken. After supper it was the turn of our rep Anita to lead après ski activities. The children enjoyed a quiz evening, bowling, ice skating, swimming and a movie night. After activities it was time to prepare for bed and get ready for the next day’s skiing. The trip was certainly a great success and a big thank you must go to Mrs Edwards and Mr Whittock for all their hard work and support during our time away.
