Fantastic day for Witham at the Repton Tennis Tournament
26 May 2016
On Sunday 6 pairs from Witham’s Team Tennis squad travelled to Repton for their prestigious annual tournament, hoping for success. Over the course of the day, the Witham teams battled hard, each pair playing at least four matches consisting of a ‘first to four game’s format. James and Toby lost their opening match against the eventual runners up in St Olave’s, however responded extremely well to win their remaining matches, showcasing some impressive, classy tennis. Kate and Lottie won their group with some extremely consistent tennis but unfortunately came up against the other Witham pair in the semi-final, narrowly missing out; a tremendous team effort however. With his brother on the next door court, Oscar and Charlie were quite frankly brilliant; playing two years above their age group, the pair played tennis befitting a group far older and ended the day narrowly losing three and winning one. They finished the day with a super win but played their most classy tennis against the eventual winners of the entire tournament - they both have an extremely exciting future in tennis. Bonnie and Ella topped their group comfortably and won through to the final where they played their nemesis in Foremarke Hall. The Formarke pair who play four or five times a week were very strong and although Ella and Bonnie put up a good fight, their opposition was just too strong. It was however a very pleasing performance from the girls and one of which they should be extremely proud. To top a quite superb day off, Alice and Harriet stormed the tournament and went on to win their final against a very talented Foremarke pair – 6-0; they did exactly what they needed to do which was to play consistent tennis and made very few mistakes. The last time this cup was won by Witham Hall was in 2007 so it really was a quite tremendous performance from the girls and only topped off a great team performance by all the Witham players.
Thank you to Repton for such a wonderful day and to all the parents for their continued support.
