The U11A team today played in the sweltering heat at a tournament organised by Rugby School for Prep Schools. Six schools competed and everyone played everyone in short rapid fire matches of 20 bowls per innings.

Witham had some really good wins:

V Bilton Grange  6-3

V King’s College, Cambridge  6-3

V Packwood Haugh   8-2

V Spratton Hall  8-2

V Milton Keynes Prep  7-4

The final match was against Milton Keynes who had won all their previous matches, so was a rather tense affair. However, the girls rose to the challenge admirably with Bonnie, Ella, Katie and Bella keeping calm with the bat and making good contact to score rounders and half rounders.

Mia and Matilda both bowled, Mia for three matches and Matilda for two. Both kept their composure and gave their opposition batsmen something to think about. Bella was efficient and spot on with her throwing all afternoon from her back stop position.

Out in the field there were a number of terrific catches. Perhaps the most spectacular were from Matilda and Ella who both held on to running catches! However, there were other impressive catches from Bella and Bonnie. Lulie was spot on with her catching all afternoon and enjoyed receiving some good ball from Bella leading to some great stumping's out.

There was evidence of some safe hands on the ball in the field from Sienna, Sophie and Poppy who all showed courage in the face of balls moving at speed towards them.

This was a real team effort. Well done U11As! This is the first time that Witham Hall has won this trophy! Thanks too, to Nick Dickens who drove us and supported us all afternoon…..and obviously brought us that bit of luck always needed at a tournament.
