Chess players get ready to make your moves!
08 Sep 2016
Chess club starts again the first Thursday back with Breakfast Chess Club – over the first quarter it is just for girls. Already 24 girls have put their names forward. It’s not too late if others would like to join us!
Monday lunchtime will see the start of year 2 Chess Club; any year 2 pupils are welcome - just come along to the year 2 classroom.
Our first tournament of the year takes place on Sunday September the 18th at Eton College, Windsor. We will be taking a team of 7 players and hopefully build upon the success we enjoyed last year. Several matches are planned against other schools throughout the term for different age groups and abilities - details will be put on the Chess notice board. The Lincolnshire Schools Chess Association is also holding a Grand Prix event on Saturday the 8th October at Stamford.
During the summer holidays our chess players travelled up to Manchester to play in the next rounds of the Delancey Chess Tournament. The competition standard was very high, the majority of players being at least county level ability. To qualify to play at this tournament players had won their sections in the regional competitions earlier in the year. Our team of Hugo Dunn, Shivali Patel, Richard Tomlinson, Hamish Gordon Stewart and Robert Tombs all played exceptionally well with Robert scoring enough points to qualify for the Silver Plate Competition. Well done all.
