Visit of Luke Delahunty

17 Oct 2016

The school was delighted to welcome Luke Delahunty to speak to the whole school in assembly. Luke is a wheel chair user of 20 years following a motorcycle accident while serving as a RAF Regiment Gunner. He spoke about his life both before and after his accident, highlighting the importance of never giving up, despite what challenges one might face. Luke outlined how he has become an accomplished scuba diving instructor and learnt to fly a plane using only hand controls. He also engages in both water and snow skiing, using a seated ski.

Most recently Luke competed in the Invictus Games in Florida, where he came 6th in the arm only rowing and 4th in the hand cycling. The highlight of his Games was having his photo taken with Prince Harry which the children enjoyed seeing. He now looks forward to the next Invictus Games, which are to be held in Toronto, Canada in 2017. The children had opportunities to ask questions, the answers to which concluded a most engaging and thought provoking assembly.
