U9 Girls to Barlborough Hall Festival

Full of excitement all the Under 9 Girls, Captained by Millie who was supported by Vice-Captain Alexandra, made the long trek to Barlborough Hall Prep School for their first hockey experience in the Prep School. The Festival, held annually by Barlborough, is a fantastic way to overcome nerves and enjoy some early season matches.

The girls have had the benefit of training on the lovely Witham astro. Although they have experienced too some grass sessions in preparation for this event, it was certainly still a rude awakening for them to be faced with four matches on damp grass. The ball felt heavy and it was difficult to propel with any great power, to team-mates, which meant that there was quite a lot of football played as groups of players all got ‘stuck-in’ trying to get the ball away! However, the girls came away with a decent set of results and a much clearer idea of how the game of hockey works. Goals were scored by Clara (2) and Olivia (1) and there was some terrific defensive play from Poppy, Sammie and Millie. Kitty worked her heart out on the right wing and Olivia, who has only started to play hockey this term, was an inspiration in the middle where she never gave up. The girls have now got to work on holding their positions and improving how they communicate and play co-operatively with each other.

Results:

v Hymers lost 0-3
