Sporting successes of Old Withamians

24 Oct 2016

Georgia Blackman

Georgia has just completed her first competitive hockey season for Team Leicestershire in the Under 13 category. This included playing in the inter-county hockey tournaments at Litchfield and at Wellingborough.

Georgia was a key part of Leicestershire’s defence and formed a formidable defensive unit with the other defensive players. Georgia made good decisions, timing tackles well and winning possession for her team on many occasions.

Alexandra Eatch

Ali was a member of the England Under 16 squad for the 2015/2016 season as goalkeeper. She played three matches against the Germans in June, a match away in Belgium early in July and was back in Belgium in late July for the Six Nations Tournament against Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Spain and The Netherlands.

Abbey Lloyd

Abbey's main sport at Repton is football, where she plays goalkeeper. She reached the National Finals with her Repton Team, where they narrowly missed out on a gold medal.

She was selected for the Regional ISFA Squad, and with that team became National Champions (undefeated in all National Final games). She has now got trials for the ISFA National U18 Squad, where - if successfully selected - she will then play a season of International matches.

She has also kept up her athletics, and excelled in shot put, last winning the Gold Medal at the Derbyshire County Championships.

Tara Lloyd

Tara has had an exciting couple of seasons of hockey.

2014/15 season saw her selected to play up for the Repton Under16 Cup Squad. This team became double National Champions (Indoor and Outdoor), with the Outdoor Finals being played at The Olympic Park. She also captained her Under16 Leicester Hockey Club side to National Indoor Hockey Finals.

She was selected for - and competed in - Futures Cup at the beginning of the Season in October, narrowly missing out on England Under16 selection.

She also captained the Repton U15 Squad, who were unbeaten all season.

In the 2015/16 Season she has captained her Under16 Repton Squads (both Indoor and Outdoor). They retained their Regional League Title for the third year in a row, and became County and Regional Champions. The squad reached National Finals for both Indoor and Outdoor. The Outdoor final was once again held at the Olympic Park. The Gold Medal match went to penalty flicks, and Repton missed out this year, coming away with the Silver Medal.

Her Under16 Leicester Hockey Club side also reached National Finals for both Indoor and Outdoor, so the Olympic Park was visited again. She was also selected for a Club 'Youth Squad' to play a touring Dutch Squad at the Olympic Park, a game that they won.

She was selected to play in Barcelona with the Leicester 1st Team in January, and also selected to play with the team for their Indoor campaign. As Leicester are a Premiership Team, this was a huge honour for such a young player, and she was playing against the likes of Kate Richardson-Walsh and other current GB players.

She found out at the end of the season that she has been promoted to the Leicester 1st Team full time, so will be playing Premiership League hockey as a matter of course. She has also been selected to represent their Under18 Squad in a Tour to The Hague in August.

Unfortunately a serious quad injury has precluded her from any England or Regional selection over the last few months, but rehab is going well, and she is predicted to be fully fit for the August campaign.

Jenna Lloyd

Jenna also reached the National Finals at the Olympic Park with her Repton Under14 Squad. They made it to the Bronze medal match, which went to penalty flicks. She calmly saved 4 of the flicks, and her Squad received the Bronze medal.

She also reached Regional Finals with her Leicester Hockey Club Under 14 Squad, and has been selected for their Under16 Squad for the forthcoming Season.

She has also been selected for the Repton Under 16 Cup Squad for the forthcoming Season, and they started training in August.

She has recently been selected to train with the England Hockey Regional Performance Squad, and will be training with them all Summer.
