2nd VII  v Thomas Deacon Academy  Won 3 - 0

The 2nd VII played a super match against Thomas Deacon Academy. Witham dominated much of the play and took the lead in the first half and the half time score was 1-0. The girls worked hard, passing accurately and with perseverance they scored another two goals. Thomas Deacon made a few attacking moves but our defence and goalkeepers calmly cleared any shots and Thomas Deacon were unable to break through and score. A very well played match and a deserved 3 – 0 win, well done girls.

Under 12A v Thomas Deacon Academy Won 4-0

A rather eclectic group of Witham U12 girls headed to Peterborough to face Thomas Deacon Year 7 and 8’s. Witham started really strong, attacking from the very first whistle and maintaining the majority of the possession. Thomas Deacon had bigger, stronger players than Witham, but with some lovely skilful play, Ella secured two goals in the first half. Mia and Charlotte were strong in defence, giving Georgina just two goals to save throughout the whole match.

In the second half Poppy’s continuous hard work paid off and she finished off our third goal with a powerful hit. Sienna played wonderfully on the right, working tirelessly up and down the wing, feeding the ball into Ella for her third and final goal of the match. Millie played really well on the left, supporting the defence and attack. All of the girls played really well, demonstrating great sportsmanship and skill – well done!

Under 12B  v Thomas Deacon Academy Won 3 – 0 A mixture of Year 7 and 6 girls played in this U12B VII hockey match against Thomas Deacon. Both sides played well and moved the ball around the pitch from one end to another. Good stick work was demonstrated and the girls worked hard to make space in order to set up attacking moves. The defence worked fantastically, going towards our opponents and making solid tackles in order to gain possession back. The final score was a well-deserved 3 – 0 win to Witham. Well done girls.

2nd VII v Worksop College Won 1 -0

On a rather damp and miserable Saturday afternoon the 2nd VII Hockey team played against Worksop College. Witham dominated play from the first whistle scoring within the first 10 minutes of play. Witham had much of the possession and created many more opportunities to score but Worksop’s defence worked extremely hard and cleared the ball safely on each occasion. Worksop also had their chances to score but likewise our defence worked hard to ensure that a goal was not conceded. Worksop awarded ‘player of the match’ to Mia who played superbly in midfield, very well done Mia! That said a great team effort from the whole team, very well done girls.

2nd VII v Oundle Under 12A  Drew 1-1

A very exciting game took place between Witham 2nd VII and Oundle’s Under 12A hockey teams. Excellent stick work was demonstrated with possession changing quickly from team to team. Fantastic movement of the ball from one side of the pitch to the other allowed both teams to set up attacks, which were superbly defended from both sides. Finally after much hard work, Witham were reward with a tremendous goal. However, our opponents managed to take advantage of some careless passing within the last two minutes of the game and they levelled the score. In the final minute Witham attacked hard and had a few shots at goal but were unable to score. The final result of a 1 -1 draw is a good reflection of a very enjoyable match. Very well done girls.
