Pre Season Hockey and Netball Training Lent 2017 Friday 6th January: 1.30 - 4pm

04 Jan 2017

I trust that you have all had a good break and enjoyed the Christmas festivities. On Friday we are looking forward to seeing your children at pre-season netball training (Year 7 & 8 girls) and hockey training (Year 7 &8 boys). While the sessions are not compulsory it is a very positive way to start the term, get fit, hone skills and begin to feel involved with the Witham teams.
Girls: Please meet Mrs Welch on the top courts.
Boys: Please meet Mr Gent at the astro shelter.
Kit for boys and girls: all children should wear Witham Sports kit for pre-season. Boys must remember their shin pads (long enough to give adequate protection for hockey) and their mouth guard should they have taken it home. School hockey sticks can be used but please remember your own if that is your preference.
Footwear: Boys should arrive in trainers with astro boots/alternate clean trainers in hand. Please note that all children using the AstroTurf may only use it equipped with astro boots or an alternative clean pair of trainers. To keep the astro in good condition shoes are changed directly before play in the astro shelter. Girls will need their outdoor trainers.
Food/drink: ALL children should bring a drink and any snack required.
Supplementary kit for boys and girls: depending on the weather please bring a waterproof/change of clothes/warm layers/gloves/hat.
The Senior Hockey Coaches this term will be:
  • 1st XI: Mr Gent
  • 2nd XI: Mr Wills
  • 3rd XI: Mr Welch
The Senior Netball Coaches this term will be:
  • 1st VII: Mrs Welch
  • 2nd /3rd VII: Mrs Morgan Jones
Coaching and matches: much coaching will be done altogether under the direction of the lead coaches. There is a full Wednesday/Saturday fixture programme for all teams. Please see the calendar for further details. Please note that recently we have heard that Oakham have cancelled their Rugby/Netball Festivals this year. We hope as many children as possible will attend pre-season training. However, should this not be possible then please kindly email Mr Wills ( or Mrs Tarver (
CANCELLATION: should the weather be particularly bad making training not worthwhile then a cancellation email will be sent at about 10am on Friday 6th January and a notice will be placed on the website.
Kind regards,
Mr S Wills and Mrs J Tarver
Head of Boys and Girls Games
