Big Netball day for Witham Hall!

02 Feb 2017

1st VII v Stamford High School

2nd VII v Stamford High School

3rd VII v Stamford High School

WHS – 4
SHS – 13

The girls should be very proud of their performance against Stamford this Wednesday – although the outcome wasn’t in our favour, everyone worked extremely hard and demonstrated brilliant team spirit. A particular mention to Jemima F who played goal shooter for the first time and scored 3 of the 4 goals! The girl’s enthusiasm and ability to adapt to various positions was admirable.  A great game played by both teams!

U11A v Stamford U12A

U11B v Peterborough U11A

WHS – 9
Peterborough – 9

The U11B Netball team should be extremely proud of their performance against Peterborough U11As. Both teams played some super netball with the ball constantly moving from one end of the court to the other throughout the match. Well timed interceptions from both sides added to the excitement and with the goal difference between the sides never exceeding more than 2 the match was nail biting to the end. A final result of 9 -9 is a fantastic result against another school’s A team. Very, very well done girls!

U11C v Peterborough U10A

WHS – 1
Peterborough – 2

The U11C team had a very challenging game of netball against a tall Peterborough’s U10A side. Peterborough took the lead in the first quarter with a well worked goal, but Rachel and Ellie-Bella certainly didn’t make it easy for them. Peterborough’s GD was about 5ft 10, and despite Bunny’s best efforts, she just could not get out of her reach! The next two quarters were rather uneventful in terms of goals scored, but there was plenty of movement in the centre court. Isabelle worked very hard in Centre, with her neat footwork a great advantage to the team. In the final quarter both teams scored 1 more goal each. Izzie (our shortest player) managed to score whilst being marked by their tallest player, taking the final score to 1-2! Rachel was voted player of the match by Peterborough thanks to her superb marking all match – well done!

U9 v Peterborough U9A

WHS – 3
Peterborough – 9

The youngest netball team were out in force yesterday; they had a really good warm up and have been working hard on their shooting. Unfortunately their opposition were quite a bit stronger, with more accurate passing and greater team cohesion. At the end of the first quarter Witham only trailed by 1 goal, but they fell much further behind in the second quarter, with Peterborough taking their total to 6! The third quarter was by far the best one for our U9 girls, with Witham drawing 1-1 over the 8 minutes. Positioning went downhill again in the final quarter and Witham struggled to get in front of their players. With it being just the second match for the U9 girls, every fixture is a learning curb and it gives us plenty to work on as the week’s progress.
