Witham Hall U11A Netball Team – Runners-Up in IAPS National Small Schools Tournament
24 Mar 2017
Last week the U11A Netball Team had a most enjoyable trip to Suffolk to play in what was the first ever IAPS National Small Schools netball Tournament. After a Sunday meet up at school the team travelled down to Ipswich for the night with Mrs Edwards and Mrs Morgan-Jones. The girls enjoyed the comfort of a Premier Inn, the options provided by the financial challenge at supper and the general excitement of a mini break way!
The following day it was down to the serious stuff and the prospect of a combined total of two hours of solid play. First up was Easton House Prep, London. They were an extraordinarily athletic group of girls with an extremely tall GS and we were well beaten 10-5. However, this would prove to be the only team we lost to all day – we actually had to play them in both the morning and afternoon sessions of play as all the top teams progressed to a top group in the afternoon playing off in a ‘Cup’ competition. Getting to the ‘Cup’ group was extremely tough and the Witham team only managed it by one goal when the goal differences were worked out!
In the girls’ final Cup matches playing off for 1st-3rd placings they beat Widford Lodge 13-5 and Framlingham Prep, Brandeston Hall 7-2. With just the losses morning and afternoon against Easton House Witham became silver medallists in the 1st National Small Schools Netball Tournament. Well done to Poppy Wraith (c); Bella Fox (52 goals); Josie Turner (10 goals); Millie (1 goal); Rose; Lilia; Gigi; Sophie; Matilda. Well done in particular to the defensive team of Matilda and Rose, who for all but one match contained their opposition shooters’ goals to single figures. However, overall this was a splendid team effort showing pleasing progression.
