Witham Hall Remembers

11 Nov 2014

Staff and pupils of Witham Hall, led by the Headmaster, stood in silence today to pay their respects to the dead of many wars. The senior choir sang a new setting of Laurence Binyon’s famous words ‘We will remember them’ and the Last Post and Reveille were ably played by Will Davison and Alfie Buik. This act of remembrance followed our community Remembrance Service on Sunday at St Andrew’s, where the senior choir and the trumpet squad (trained and led by Mr Chandley) played their parts with dignity and commitment. This morning members of form 5B, with Mrs Lyons, presented a moving assembly to the whole school in which they read their own poems about trench warfare, and all pupils sang the hymn ‘Remember’. Jelly babies were distributed at the end of this assembly, as they were introduced after the end of the Great War as ‘Peace Babies’, and we left the hall encouraged to play our parts in the search for peace.
