The U11A Hockey team made a phenomenal start to their season with an unbeaten tournament win at Laxton. With just a couple of training sessions under their belts, they went out for their first fixture relatively green, but incredibly keen. Bedford had some strong players, but after a few minutes of finding their feet Witham started to find the back board with Eliza smashing two past the keeper and Matilda making the most of a short corner.

With a renewed confidence we faced Stamford with Eliza scoring 2 more goals from well executed short corner routines, and Bunny scoring two sneaky goals with great positioning and composure. The whole team were working fantastically together. Matilda and Millie made sure the ball went nowhere near Charlotte in our goal.

Foremarke posed our biggest challenge yet, but hard work in the midfield from Rose, Lilia and Mollie meant that despite some skilful play from Foremarke, Witham won with two more goals from the unstoppable Eliza!

Finishing top in our group, we face Wisbech in the semi-final, comfortably winning the match 5-0 (Eliza 4 and Rose 1). Our fine-tuned team were working their socks off and reaping the rewards, we were through to the finals and facing Foremarke once more. Unfortunately by this stage of the tournament our fitness was lagging a little and a nasty fall for Matilda knocked the whole team. At full time the score was 0-0 and we went to dreaded penalty shuffles!

Charlotte had not touched the ball all game and was now faced with Foremarke’s three best players in a one on one situation! She saved the very first one and this ended up being very important. It went to two rounds and with a charge out of her goal she saved a second one resulting in Witham taking home the Cup! Rose, Millie and Eliza did incredibly well to maintain their composure and scored almost every shuffle they took. What a fantastic team effort and a great way to start the term – well done!
