16 Jan 2018

Witham  4 – 6  Bedford Modern
Witham  7 – 3  Swanbourne
Witham  11 – 0  Kimbolton
Witham  3 – 1  Queenswood

The 1st VII Netball team travelled to Kimbolton School to play in their first tournament of the season. It is always good to get a tournament under our belts, early in the season, playing shortened matches and learning to get play going as soon as the whistle blows. In the first game against a very tall Bedford Modern team, Witham were very slow to adapt to the tall team and both teams made too many mistakes under pressure. The scores were even throughout, but Witham unfortunately panicked under pressure, leading us to lose a centre pass and losing the game 4-6.

The second game was against Swanbourne, who were skilful and had very accurate shooters. Witham started to pass the ball with confidence and they took their time to think about tactics and stick to the game plan, winning 7-3. The next game was against Kimbolton and Witham really started to play the ball around, mark tightly and putting the Kimbolton team under pressure from our defence, right through to the attack, winning 11-0 and giving the team a real boost to go into their final game against Queenswood. This was a very tight game and Witham knew they had to keep the ball under pressure. Tight marking, timing of moves from defence through to the attacking circle really started to happen in the second half, where we took the lead to win the game 3-1. The games within this tournament were the strongest that Witham has experienced over the last few years. It was good to play at such intensity so early on in the season and it will bode well for their coming matches this week against Spratton Hall. Well done girls and thank you to Miss Chapman, our assistant coach, and to all our side line supporting team.
