Maidwell Hall Inter-Schools Showjumping Competition

06 Feb 2018

The newly expanded equestrian team had a very enjoyable afternoon at the Maidwell Hall Inter-Schools showjumping competition. We were represented by a wide range of pupils from across the school, from year 1 to year 8 and were able to field a team in all four of the classes, so it made for a fantastic afternoon of jumping.

The highlight of the afternoon was the 60cm class where the small team of Clara on her two ponies, Jester and Jammy Dodger, and Millie on Popcorn, both rode super and fast clear rounds to win the class. Millie also finished 2nd in the individual competition. Well-done girls!

This was quickly followed up with a 2nd place finish in the 70cm class. The 70cm team was made up of Jemima on Duke, Clara on Jammy Dodger,

Millie on Popcorn, and Mollie on Arthur. Again the girls rode fast and secure clear rounds, but unfortunately they were just beaten on the clock into 2nd place by a strong team from Stamford Girls School. Millie again managed an individual placing finishing in 6th place.

The 80cm team of Jemima on her two ponies, Primrose and Duke, and Mollie on Arthur finished in 5th place in their class to end the day.

A special mention must be made of the fantastic 50cm team which was made up of the youngest competitor of the day Savannah on Sugar, together with Ava on Inca, Lottie on Lady P and Clara on Jester. Ava also rode as an individual on Fraggle. As is often the case with short, fat, fluffy ponies the rounds didn’t quite go to plan, with only Clara managing a clear round, but nevertheless the girls had a fun afternoon, learnt a lot and showed great team spirit! Witham were still kept in the ribbons though as Clara rode another faultless round on Jester to finish 3rd individually.

The team must also say a big thank you to Millie, who despite not being able to ride due to an injured ankle, came to support the team and was a huge help to all of us.

We all had a fantastic afternoon and it was great to have such a strong Witham team. We will definitely be looking for more dates in the future and are also hoping to put in some training dates as well, so for any other budding equestrians, please do get in touch!
