1st VII v Maidwell Hall 1st VII

Witham – 23
Maidwell – 4

The girls were ready for a hard game against Maidwell Hall. Witham took the home advantage and really excelled in the first two quarters leading 15-0. At half time, Maidwell had a strong half time talk and Witham made a few changes. Unfortunately, Witham went to sleep for 10 minutes (whilst Mrs Welch was umpiring the Under 12 game!) and then woke up! The final quarter was different again, with Witham thinking about their play, their strength and the team they all believe in. Witham won 23 - 4 with a lot more in the tank!  Well done to all the girls and thank you to all of our supporters.

1st VII v St John’s 1st VII

Witham – 26
St John’s – 17

This was a great game against St John’s with a lot of varied in play from quarter to quarter. There were a lot of tight situations with centre passes going either way, and close score lines. However, the second half was the highlight of the game, with the shooting statistics really starting to rise and confidence starting to shine through! Well done to all the girls and we look forward to training hard for the forthcoming IAPS and Maidwell game.

U12 v St John’s U12

Witham – 10
St John’s – 16

The first game after half term saw a very slow start from the Witham team. Both teams made basic errors and gave away possession with silly mistakes. St John’s shooters were much more accurate and soon took the lead. Unfortunately this was not the Witham team at its best and as a consequence they lost to a team they had the potential to beat.

U13 3rds/4ths VII v St John’s 3rd VII

Witham – 9
St John’s – 4

The match started off slowly with most of the play taking place in the centre third for the first few minutes. At times, our passing was rushed and we were not making effective use of the space resulting in us losing possession. However, key interceptions were made at critical points, meaning that their shooters saw very little of the ball for the first 12 minutes with the scores level at half time. We started the second half more positively, scoring a few goals in quick succession. Our passing became more accurate and we were moving off the ball nicely. Due to some of the St John’s players being very tall we had to be creative with our passing and make sure we were getting into space to receive the ball. As the match progressed we became more adept at this. Soon we were able to distribute the ball quickly and efficiently to our shooters who went on to increase our lead whilst our defenders were able to stop St John’s from scoring.

U13 3rds/4ths VII Vs St John’s 3rd VII

Witham – 10
St John’s – 4

From the first whistle both sides were determined to gain possession. We had to work hard to keep the ball and make sure we were moving into space. Our defence were forced to mark their players tightly and made some vital interceptions. Our attacking players passed the ball with pace and our shooters were able to make the most of the opportunities that came their way. At half time we were only one goal up and had plenty of work ahead of us. We started the second half with energy and attack. After a few early goals we were gaining momentum. Our passing was quick and accurate, our movement both on and off the ball was good and with some impressive, consistent shooting we were able to further our lead.

U11B v Maidwell Hall U11A

Witham – 1
Maidwell – 10

A depleted U11B Netball team had a tough match against Maidwell Hall’s U11A. Unfortunately the girls struggled to maintain possession of the ball and with careless footwork errors our opponents were able to take advantage and find their rhythm quickly. Disappointingly the match finished in a 1 – 10 defeat. Credit to Tilly for scoring our only goal of the match, well done!

U11C v Maidwell Hall U11B

Witham – 4
Maidwell – 6

The Witham Under 11 C team travelled to Maidwell to play against their Under 11 B and C teams. Both teams started slowly and the shooters in particular found it difficult to find their range, but Maidwell managed to score 3 goals to Witham’s 1 in the first quarter. As the game progressed and the Witham players changed positions they played much more positively and they were able to score more freely. Unfortunately Maidwell had established a lead which they held until the final whistle. The two year four girl’s in particular, made a very influential contribution to the team.

U9A v Spratton Hall U9A

Witham – 6
Spratton – 2

The U9A team continued their winning streak this Thursday, defeating a strong and skilful Spratton side. The first quarter was slow and Witham seemed to have forgotten how to play netball! After gathering themselves Witham started to pull things together, with Olivia scoring her first goal. Spratton had lots of chances but Katie and Rosie marked their opponents very well, breaking down most attacks. Georgia worked fantastically in a supporting shooter role, whilst Olivia scored all 6 goals! It was a great team effort in the last two quarters and the mood really lifter, resulting in a confident win – well done girls.

U9A/B v Maidwell Hall U9A

Witham – 7
Maidwell – 2

The Year 4 girls had the challenge of playing as a new team on Saturday; luckily we were tucked away in the sports hall out of the cold February wind! For the first few minutes Maidwell had the majority of the possession and territory. Witham got their act together though and started to piece some nice play together. The score was 3-1 to Witham at the end of the first quarter, but very nearly 3-2 as Maidwell were unlucky to score a wonder goal just after the whistle had gone! Olivia and Millie shot with great accuracy, and Katie A and Matilda ensured Maidwell’s opportunities in attack were limited. Elizabeth played with increased confidence as the match went on, and Chiara made some good interceptions. Katie S held things together in the centre court, feeding the ball into the attack. Overall, this was a well matched and competitive game, with Witham just having the upper hand thanks to their tighter basic skills and shooting accuracy.

U9B v Spratton Hall U9B

Witham – 11
Spratton – 4

The Under 9B team had a great game against Spratton. The team worked hard, making great interceptions. Millie and Scarlett rarely missed a shot and had great communication in the D.

With no subs they had to keep going at times only playing with 6 due to injury. Chiara was a dynamic Centre and a good captain. The whole team performed well and we were leading 11-4 going into the last quarter so we moved positions to try to even the game up. The end score remained 11-4.

U9C v Spratton Hall U9C

Witham – 1
Spratton – 3

The girls battled hard in the freezing conditions against a persistent Spratton side. After going two goals down, the Witham girls fought back through a superb goal orchestrated by the entire team and finished by Violet. The girls should be immensely proud of their performance and despite losing narrowly, they really showed some very encouraging netball.
