Witham’s Alice Farmer Reaches British Modern Junior Biathlon Finals

02 Dec 2014

Back in early October Witham took part in the East Midlands Regional Biathlon Qualifiers near Nottingham. As it was the first time we had entered such an event we took a small team of 6 along to take part in the run and swim event. The children had to complete either a 1600m or 800m run depending on their age category and a 100m or 50m swim. They competed against other schools and children running for clubs.

Local and regional events took place all over the country during September and October. Alice did well at Bingham against a strong field and she accrued enough points (compared with other U11s nationally) to get a high enough ranking to be selected for the Nationals. This last Saturday, she went to the British Modern Biathlon Finals in Birmingham. This was a first for Witham! After registration Alice had to take part in an 800m run.  She ran it in an impressive 2m 56s, which was 30 seconds quicker than her qualifying time. This placed her 33rd in the competition. Afterwards she then had to take part in a 50m swim. Her time was 46 seconds, a few seconds quicker than her previous time. Overall Alice placed 65th out of well over one hundred competitors that were taking part. Well done Alice - a great achievement!
