U11 Rugby School Tennis Festival

27 Apr 2018

The U11 Team Tennis squad travelled to Rugby School for a pre-season festival of coaching and matches. The team revelled in the high quality coaching from the Rugby School staff involving cardio tennis and movement drills. In the afternoon, Witham played as three separate teams of four in a mixture of singles and doubles. The team played some superb tennis in challenging conditions. The rain caused the ball to skid low which meant each player had to work hard to anticipate each shot. Considering this was a Year 6 tournament, Witham had the youngest squad fielding four Year 4 pupils who quite clearly stood up to the challenge and certainly did not look phased against bigger and more powerful opposition. A special mention must go to Alfie, Jack, Hugo and Georgia who impressed with their mature attitude to tournament tennis. At the end of the day, Witham had won the ‘Plate’ competition and finished 3rd and 4th respectively in the ‘Cup’ after a very entertaining 3rd/4th playoff between the two Witham teams. It was an absolute pleasure to take sure a hard-working and mature group of players away all day and the performances of the team were extremely encouraging for the season ahead. Thank you to Rugby School for their hospitality and to all the parents for their continued support.
