Final Rounders Matches of the Year

U10 v Bedford Girls’ School U11C
Witham – 23
Bedford – 14
The girls travelled away to Bedford to play their last game of the season. Captain, Poppy P lost the toss and we went into bat, which was not a bad thing.
After 5 balls, Witham had scored 3 full rounders by Poppy P, Kitty and Clara, which was superb and gave the team confidence. The U10 girls were really working together, encouraging and giving each other confidence. Soon the girls started to believe and more half and full rounders came from Jemma, Poppy M-T, Olivia, and more full rounders from Poppy P, Kitty, and Clara. After one batting innings the score was Witham 13 ½. A great start.
Bedford went into bat and they were confident. Tight bowling from Lydia, enabled us to keep the score down. Witham’s triangle of Lydia, Olivia and Alexandra stopped the half rounders with back up teams from Ellie-Bella, Jemma and Poppy P. Alexandra was particularly tight in her control of the second post and took some very difficult catches to stump out. Bedford scored 7 rounders.
Witham went into bat again and hit with direction and strength. Full and half rounders from Poppy P, Ellie –Bella, Clara, Olivia, Poppy MT, Lydia and Alexandra showed strength across the team. Bedford went back into bat and scored a further 7 giving them a total of 14 rounders. Some outstanding fielding was displayed by Lydia, who caught a very difficult ball by their strongest batter and 2nd and 3rd post players: Alexandra and Poppy P.
The U10 team showed amazing team spirit, so much improvement and all the girls should be very proud of the way they played in their final game. A great way to finish the term – I am very proud of them all.
Thank you girls and huge thanks to all our supporters who have consistently supported the team.
U9A v Stamford U9A
Witham – 21 ½
Stamford – 9
The U9A team played against Stamford JS, winning the toss and opting to field first. A great combination triangle between bowler, backstop and first post got many Stamford players out. We took some outstanding catches in the field, with several caught by Georgia at backstop. We then batted confidently, scoring many full rounders.
In their second innings Stamford did not reach our first innings score, however, they batted well and we were slightly indecisive at times. We could relax going into our second batting innings knowing we'd already won the game. Rosie was voted as player of the match by the Stamford team.
U9A v Bourne Westfield U9A
Witham – 22 ½
Westfield – 10 ½
We were very pleased to welcome Bourne Westfield to Witham for our final match of the season. They bought a mixed team of boys and girls to play against our U9A team. Witham fielded really nicely, demonstrating some advanced skills and a really good knowledge of the game. They were not on top form for the first batting innings, struggling to hit a slow and spinning ball, but picked things up after half time.
This final win for the A team concludes a third successive unbeaten season – well done girls!!
U9B v Stamford Junior School U9B
Witham – 19
Stamford – 10 ½
The U9B team had a lovely fixture against Stamford, enjoying their first home match of the term! Stamford batted first, starting things off nicely with a half rounder.
Our girls soon woke up and minimised Stamford’s scoring opportunities, with Elizabeth and Jemima doing a particularly good job in the field. In bat, Flora W (captain) and Violet scored on every ball!
In the second innings, Stamford seemed to up their game and scored 4 full rounders thanks to some lovely hits. Witham responded when it was their turn to bat, with even better batting still! Hettie and Katie A did superbly in bat, showing great progress since the beginning of the term. Well done to the whole team – some lovely rounders on show and a convincing win to finish the term off.
