LEAVERS’ PROGRAMME

Note - need to choose year 5 topic to house investigation

Premise & changes:

  • Avoid repetition in changing to new schemes (notably 5 into 6)
  • To accommodate 2 year CE course some 13+ must be covered in year 6
  • Covering reproduction in year 6 (as before) - delivery later in KS2 (at a higher level of maturity and academic development) allows more depth (covering both year 5 and 13+ in one hit). Noting LFL/PSHE will cover at specified year 5 window.
  • Sheds some areas cut in syllabus review (retained previously for scholars and considered to have wider importance than CE)
  • Some year 5 moved into year 6 to allow being covered at a meaningful level (to avoid repetition later too)

Requirements & issues:

  • Scheme trimmed back to 13+ syllabus (e.g. loss of conduction, convection and radiation and digestion) – implications for scholars (especially as this is in year 7, so no scholarship stream)
  • In fitting more into two years has removed some of repetition in Chemistry and Physics (repetition was seen as beneficial)
